Garden Fantasy 36" x 48"
This painting was originally requested by my mother, to put over her fireplace. She told me she just wanted flowers and plants, as many as possible. So I created an impossible garden for her, using what she loved most, which is why tiger lillies are up front, together with palm trees and banana trees, and hydrangeas - plants that grow in opposite climates, and at different times. The setting is also unreal - the floor is from the main greenhouse at Planting Fields Arboretum (which you will recognize if you've been there) and the walls are from the walled garden at Old Westbury Gardens. The painting hung in her home until her death in 2005, at which time I inherited it. It is now a treasured item in my own collection, because this one would never have existed had she not asked for exactly this.
